With tens of thousands of people expected to attend Narendra Modi rally on Sunday, both the Delhi Police and Delhi metro have made arrangements to gear up with the expected rush in the north-western part of the city.
The 'Vikas Rally' of Narendra Modi is scheduled to be held at Japanese Park in Rohini.
With over 3000 buses, and equal number of cars expected to reach the venue from different parts of the city and the neighbouring states, the Delhi traffic police has made arrangments in terms of parking and certain route diversions.
With several party workers and other participants expected to reach Rithala metro station – the closest station to the venue, Delhi metro is also taking appropriate steps to handle extra traffic expected on the Dilshad-Garden-Rithala line.
While traffic is expected to be heavie than normal on the arterail roads in and around the venue, the fact that the rally is being held on a Sunday, and in first half of the day, it might mitigate the problem.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Shukla, however, said that he would 'strongly recommend that all participants and those who wish to join the rally should avoid private vehicles and use Delhi Metro till Rithala Metro Station which is very close to the venue'.
“Congestion is expected on the route of the rally and in outer District from 8 am. Mostly from Mukarba Chowk to Peeragarhi Chowk on Outer Ring Road, from Wazirpur depot to Rithala Metro Station, and from Punjabi Bagh Chowk to Azadpur. To reduce traffic congestion, goods vehicle will be diverted at Shahbad Dairy, Peera Garhi Chowk, Wazirpur Bus Depot and Mukarba Chowk,” Shukla said.
Further, no vehicle will be allowed to park on the arterial roads in and around the venue.
Heavy penalty will be imposed on such vehicles.
In a statement issued on saturday, Delhi metro said it is taking appropriate steps to handle extra traffic expected on the red line.
