Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday welcomed the Vatican’s decision to bestow on Mother Teresa the title of saint.

During his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', Modi described Mother Teresa’s canonisation, to be held in the Vatican City on September 4, as ‘a moment of pride for every Indian’.

“She spent her entire life in the service of people, belonging to economically weaker and underprivileged sections. She was born in Albania. Her language was also not English. But she moulded herself (to Indian conditions) and served the people of India
. It is natural for every Indian to take pride in the moment when such a mother is declared a saint,” he said.

A delegation led by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will travel to the Vatican City to attend the ceremony.
