A group of AAP leaders were on Tuesday turned away by the Delhi University (DU) authorities when they tried to meet officials to inspect Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BA degree documents.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders have now got an appointment from DU for Wednesday.

AAP leaders Ashish Khetan, Ashutosh and Raghav Chadha visited Delhi University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi’s office around 3 pm on Tuesday, a day after Union Law Minister Arun Jaitley and BJP chief Amit Shah made public prime minister’s degrees – BA degree from Delhi University and MA degree from Gujarat University.

The AAP leaders staged a brief sit-in outside the DU office demanding entry. “The BJP leaders produced forged degrees of the prime minister,” said Ashutosh.

Even Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has asked the VC to verify the prime minister’s BA degree. “DU VC not confirming the degree,” he had tweeted. “Docs in DU have been sealed. BJP presents Farzi docs in a PC gets real docs sealed. Why? Implement CIC order. Allow inspection,” Kejriwal added.

Meanwhile, Delhi University Registrar Tarun Das told a news agency that Modi’s degree is authentic. “We have checked our records and it has been authenticated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's degree is authentic. He cleared the examination in 1978 and was awarded the degree in 1979,” he said.

Modi’s enrolment number was CC 594/74 and his examination roll number was 16594, he said. Last week, AAP leaders had said that the Delhi University authorities had turned them away and told them to approach Prime Minister’s Office for further information on Modi’s degree.
