The Congress on Wednesday dismissed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's interaction with farmers as yet another publicity trick with “token beneficiaries” of the government programmes.

“Meeting just a few from the farming community, chosen to praise the NDA's programs is nothing but a gimmick. It is yet another publicity trick,” AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot said.

He said a meaningful interaction with farmers would be to talk to those whose family members committed suicide due to the agrarian distress or those farmers who have a huge burden of debt.

“One more PR exercise by the PM. Like all his other PR programmes, everything managed in advance. State machinery has been geared to facilitate PM's interaction with a few farmers, who have been token beneficiaries,” Gehlot said.

Modi on Wednesday morning addressed farmers from 600 districts through video conferencing and assured them of his government's commitment to double farmers income by 2022.
