New Delhi: The Monsoon Session of Parliament will be held between July 21 and August 21 with the President approving the government proposal, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Wednesday.

In June, Rijiju had said that the session will be held between July 21 and August 12, the usual date for the conclusion of the Monsoon Session. However, this time, there will be four extra sittings between August 18 and 21.

There is no official word on the agenda even though sources had indicated that there will be a discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor and subsequent developments.

"The President of India (Droupadi Murmu) has approved the proposal of the Government to convene the Monsoon Session of Parliament from July 21 to August 21. In view of the Independence Day celebrations, there will be no sittings on August 13 and 14," Rijiju said.

The government had earlier rejected the Opposition I.N.D.I.A.’s demand for a special session to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor and subsequent developments.

The government had on June 4 first announced its intention to start the session on July 21 after the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh finalised the dates, which was 47 days before the commencement of the session. The Opposition had then claimed that it was aimed at blunting its sustained campaign for a special session.

Sources said the session, which is likely to have 21 sittings, will see a discussion on Operation Sindoor as well as initiation of an impeachment motion against Allahabad High Court’s Justice Yashwant Varma. It is also likely to see the government taking credit for the announcement of Caste Census in a year Bihar is going to Assembly elections.

The Election Commission's decision to announce a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar is also likely to raise decibel levels in Parliament.
