At least 85,00 bottles of IV fluids were removed from the stock of the Government Hospital in Tonk, some 90 km from state capital Jaipur, when some bottles were found contaminated during an inspection.
"Fungus was found in some bottles from a batch of IV fluids. The entire batch has been removed from the stock and an enquiry has been ordered," a senior hospital official told IANS.
The bottles were to be administered to patients admitted at the hospital.
Over February and March, at least 17 pregnant women died of excessive bleeding at state-run Umaid Hospital and Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Jodhpur after they were allegedly administered contaminated IV fluids of a particular batch manufactured by Parental Surgical India Pvt Ltd.
Three doctors had been suspended and an FIR had been lodged against the IV fluids manufacturing company.
The newly-born of a pregnant woman who was allegedly administered contaminated IV fluid at Mahatma Gandhi Government Hospital (MGGH) in Bhilwara district had died Monday.
The mother, Ratan Devi, had been admitted to the hospital Saturday and was allegedly administered contaminated fluids. She gave birth to a boy and according to hospital administration, he died of infection soon after birth.
