Sargam Koushal, hailing from Jammu and Kashmir and currently living in Mumbai, was named Mrs World 2022. She brought the crown back to India after 21 years.

She won the crown in the international beauty pageant for married women held at Las Vegas in the USA. Mrs World 2021 Shaylyn Ford of the US presented the crown to Koushal on Saturday evening after she beat contestants from 63 countries.

In June this year, she was crowned Mrs India World this year. She was chosen from 51 contestants across the country. Mrs World, the first beauty pageant for married women, was launched in 1984. Earlier, India had won the title only once, in 2001, with Aditi Govitrikar bagging the coveted crown.

While describing how elated she was after being crowned, she said in a video, “We’ve got the crown back after 21-22 years. I’m so excited. Love you India, love you world.”

Thirty-one-year-old Sargam, daughter of Meena Koushal and G S Koushal (retired Chief Manager, Bank of India), who hails from Bahu Fort area in Jammu city, graduated from Women's College, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Later, she did her Masters in English Literature from the Jammu University.

A teacher by profession, content writer, model and painter, she is married to Aditya Manohar Sharma, a Lieutenant Commander in the Indian Navy, who also hails from Jammu.

According to her Instagram posts, Sargam has previously worked as a teacher in Vizag. She has also said that her husband works for the Navy.

Her father G S Koushal said that it was a proud moment for the entire country. “Since childhood Sargam was an outstanding child and always excelled in whatever she had done so far. God helps those who help themselves,” said the proud father, adding that daughters are a blessing.

Meanwhile, people congratulated Sargam's parents after her spectacular achievement.

Netizens took to social media congratulating her for not only winning the crown but also making Jammu and Kashmir and the entire country proud with her hard work and dedication.
