A day after his son and Samajwadi Party  supremo Akhilesh Yadav expressed his readiness to join hands with others to ''fight'' BJP, SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav said that his party did not need support of others and join any 'grand alliance''.

''SP is capable of taking on the BJP on its own...we do not need grand alliance," Mulayam said in an informal chat with reporters at Mainpuri on Sunday.

He said that the result of Congress-SP alliance in the recent assembly polls was there for everyone to see. Akhilesh had on Saturday supported formation of a grand alliance to take on the BJP. Before Akhilesh, the BSP supremo Mayawati had said that she was ''ready to join hands with others to fight BJP and save democracy''.
