A national kabaddi player was allegedly assaulted for resisting molestation bid in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur town, about 80 kilometres from here.

Dolly Singh, said to have played kabaddi at national level, lodged a police complaint alleging that a group of 10 people thrashed her in the town’s Barra area a few days ago.

Dolly alleged in her complaint that a youth identified as Ujala Singh from her neighbourhood molested her as she was returning home from a camp in Delhi a few days ago.

Local police did not act on her complaint against the man, which emboldened him, Dolly said in her complaint.

A few days ago, her molester barged into her house with 10 men wielding sticks and lathis and severely beat her up. “Ujala, accompanied by his friends, thrashed me,” she said.

The assault left the kabaddi player with severe facial injuries. “Ujala Singh had been waiting for me...I usually come home when there is no camp,” she said.

“She had a broken nose besides injury marks on her face, back and legs,” the police said.

Dolly narrated the assault incident to senior police officers on Wednesday and sought action against the accused. The local cops swung into action after the intervention of senior officials and Ujala Singh was arrested on Wednesday, police sources said.

The police have registered a case and launched a man hunt to nab those involved in the assault.
