No more VIP treatment for Pappu Yadav in jail

Pappu, who was apprehended from Gurgaon by the CBI on the directive of the Supreme Court, was flown to Patna and has been lodged in cell number 3/12 of the general ward of the Saraswati block in Beur.

However, unlike his previous stint in Beur jail in 2004-05 (when RJD was in power) where he lived like a lord, Pappu this time is being treated like an ordinary prisoner. His efforts to bully the jail authorities were nipped in the bud.

Sources said the man, who was debarred by the apex court from contesting polls, still wanted a VVIP treatment for self and ordered for a cooler, cot and a dining table, besides a separate bathroom. However, none of his demands were fulfiled.

“We told him clearly that we didn’t have any such orders from either the CBI court or the Supreme Court,” a senior jail official said.

Realising that the rule of his mentor (Lalu Prasad) has been replaced with a dispensation which has enforced the rule of law, Pappu eventually ‘pleaded’ that he, being an overweight, be allowed a western commode to relieve himself. He also ‘requested’ that without a dining table, an obese like him could not have his meals.

On persistence, the former MP was eventually provided a special type of chair, in which he can have his meals as well as use it as a commode.

The four-term Lok Sabha member from Purnia and Madhepura, however, sleeps on the ground and gets the food which an ordinary prisoner is entitled.
