In a counter to Congress claims that there were six surgical strikes during the Manmohan Singh led UPA government, a Right to Information (RTI) reply from the Ministry of Defence confirmed that no such army expeditions took place before 2016.

A Jammu based activist Rohit Choudhary got the reply from the Ministry of Defence, according to a report in India Today channel. The ministry confirmed that there was only one surgical strike so far.

For a query asking whether any surgical strike took place before September 2016, the one as retaliation to Uri terror strike, the ministry said they had no data regarding any such strikes. The ministry also said there were no casualties to the Indian army during the surgical strike undertaken in September 2016.
