A "no travel" advisory has been issued by the Himachal Pradesh government in wake of the heavy monsoon rain in the hill state that left 16 people dead in the last 24 hours.

State capital and tourist hotspot Shimla on Monday received the second heaviest rainfall in the last 117 years. Tourists and others have been advised to put off their plans to travel to the hill state.
BJP national president Amit Shah who was scheduled to visit the hill state on Thursday, too, has cancelled his travel plans in the wake of the incremental weather.
Major routes, including the Chandigarh-Shimla and the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway, have been blocked due to landslides.

Parts of the Unesco heritage track connecting Kalka and Shimla has been submerged under debris due to landslides at various places. Rail movement on the route has been suspended.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has estimated the loss at Rs 775 crore with over 925 damaged roads due to the heavy rain.
