The “custody” ghost continues to haunt the Bhattacharya kids, recently repatriated from Norway, as their uncle and mother approached the Kulti police in Burdwan district with allegations against one another.

While their mother, Sagarika, alleged that she was not allowed to meet four-year-old Abhigyan and 15-month-old Sagarika, uncle and legal custodian Arunabhas Bhattacharya complained that Sagarika’s family was trying to take the children away forcibly.

“Sagarika lodged a verbal complaint that Arunabhas’ family was not allowing her to meet the children,” Inspector-in-Charge of Kulti police station Sanjib Dey said.

Speaking to Deccan Herald over phone, Arunabhas said Sagarika’s family had “threatened us” and a complaint has been lodged in this regard. “Under the agreement with the Norwegian government, I’m their legal guardian until they turn 18,” he said.

It all began on Wednesday after Sagarika’s father Monotosh Chakraborty, along with his friends, visited the Bhattacharya’s Kulti residence to discuss custody of the children.

“They misbehaved with us.  On Thursday, my daughter rushed to Arunabhas’s house alone to meet her children but she was not allowed to enter,” Monotosh alleged.

Difference

Arunabhas, however, begs to differ. “Monotosh Chakraborty, accompanied by a few thugs, came to our house and tried to take the kids away by force. However, after we created a ruckus, the goons gave up and left,” he said. Following the latest developments, Sagarika alleged that she was forced to return to India by her husband Anurup and brother-in-law Arunabhas.
