Actor Shah Rukh Khan’s “Chennai Express” which was released on the day of Eid may have made a grand opening, but a fatwa (religious decree) was also issued asking people not to name their children after the Bollywood star.
The fatwa was issued by a muslim cleric in Meerut on Friday. Maulana Kari Shafiq-ur-Rehman issued the fatwa while addressing people at an Eid congregation. He said Bollywood stars released their films on Eid only with the objective of making more money.
Wrong message
“What do they want to achieve by releasing their films on the pious day of Eid. They are only bothered about their own interests. They have no concern for society,” the maulana said, adding that it sent a wrong message to society.
The cleric said that the objective behind issuing the fatwa was to “keep society away from evil”. He asked people not to name their children after Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.
In the past, Salman Khan’s “Bodyguard” and Shah Rukh’s “Veer-Zara” were also released on the day of Eid.
Islamic seminaries usually issue fatwas on matters pertaining to the religion in the light of sharia (islamic law).
