Old Pension Scheme: Government Medical College nurses go on strike in Nagpur

Nurses and clerical staff from the Government Medical College, Nagpur, staged a protest on March 15 demanding the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). The protesters raised slogans such as, “Single Mission Old Pension”.

A large number of government hospitals across the state are seeing their staff go on strike. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on March 13 announced that his government was setting up a committee to look into the demand. The BJP-led NDA government led by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee scrapped the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in 2003 and introduced the National Pension Scheme (NPS) starting April 1, 2004.
