Rebels attacked a polling team near Teliabahiyar village under the jurisdiction of Pirtand police station of Giridih district barely two hours before the second phase of polling. One CISF jawan was killed in the incident.

Joint Chief Electoral Officer AK Sinha said: “A team of security personnel was on its way to a polling station when they came under attack around 5 am. One jawan died. Around 50 per cent electorates exercised their franchise during the elections for 14 seats.”

Earlier, voting for the 26 seats began at 7 am amid heavy security arrangements.
The Ramgarh constituency recorded the highest voting percentage of 62, while the turnout at the Tamar Assembly seat was the lowest with a mere 42 per cent electorates exercising their franchise.  

A total of 259 candidates were in the fray in the second phase.
