One million devotees celebrate Janmashtami in Mathura

Over ten lakh devotees paid their obeisance at different decked-up temples in the city on the occasion of Janmashtami, the festival signifying the birth of Lord Krishna.

Besides Mathura, a large number of people also visited several temples of Vrindaban and Goverdhan.

Krishna Janmasthan or Kesava Deo temple and Dwarkadheesh temple in Mathura and Radha Damodar, Radha Raman and Shahji temple in Vrindaban witnessed the maximim rush today.

Significantly, the bathing ceremony of the Lord Krishna's deity in Radha Raman temple was performed with milk, curd, honey and ghee. The event was attended by various saints and religious leaders.

Meanwhile, the district authorities have made adequate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident on this auspicious occasion.
"No untoward incident has been reported so far. Efforts are on to ensure trouble free pilgrimage of the pilgrims," DM Vishal Chauhan said.
