A day after the Jammu and Kashmir government imposed one-month ban on social media, Opposition parties on Thursday termed the decision “repressive and undemocratic”.

“On one side, the BJP government claims to make India digital, and on the other, a ban has been imposed social media which belies their claims,” state Congress chief G A Mir said.

He said the ban will incur economic losses to the state as young entrepreneurs were using social media for their businesses. National Conference leader Nasir Wani said, “Instead of using such repressive method, the state government should reach out to the people, and push the Centre to start a political dialogue on Kashmir.”
