Leaders of several parties like Congress, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, DMK, CPI(M), CPI, RJD and Muslim League among others had been voicing the demand for a special session to discuss the terror attack and send a united message to the perpetrators of terror.

On Sunday, independent Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal posted on X, “On 25th of April I suggested that a special session of Parliament be convened to show the nation’s unity in this hour of grief. I request all political parties to urge the government to convene such a session as early as possible in May.”

Earlier, Sibal also suggested that delegations of the ruling and opposition MPs should be sent to various countries so that diplomatic pressure can be created on Pakistan.

At an all-party meeting on Thursday, Muslim League Rajya Sabha MP Haris Beeran had demanded a two-day special session of Parliament.

Though they have raised questions over security and intelligence lapses, Opposition have come out in support of the government in dealing with the terror strike, amid calls for strict action against Pakistan, which they believe is behind the attack.

At an all-party meeting on Thursday, the government had indicated that there were security lapses that led to the terror attack when officials said security forces were unaware of tourists going to Baisaran meadow in April against the schedule of June.

However, the Opposition accused the government of "misleading" leaders at the all-party meeting on Pahalgam terror strike by insisting that the Baisaran meadow was open to public before schedule without seeking permission or intimating security agencies after local tour operators rebutted it saying the locality remains open most of the year.
