Taking security agencies by surprise, Pakistani flags were unfurled at several places in the Kashmir Valley on Saturday.

Sources said despite tight security, unidentified people unfurled Pakistani flags on Hariparbat fort, Buchpora, Babademb, Gojwara, Rawalpora in Srinagar city and some other towns of the Valley.

Eyewitnesses told Deccan Herald that they saw Pakistan flags hoisted on high-rise buildings and towers in several old city areas after finishing the morning prayers. Sources said police immediately swung into action and pulled down the Pakistan flags.

Inspector General of Police Syed Javed Geelani said the police is investigating the matter. “We are looking into the matter but no arrest has been made so far,” he told reporters.
The Pakistani flags appeared on the day when a lesser known organisation ‘Youth for Nation’ had announced to hoist the national flag at the historic ‘Ghanta Ghar’ (clock tower) in city’s Centre Lal Chowk.

However, they were stopped by the police in Jammu and prevented from marching to Kashmir.

The waving of Pakistani flags has become common in recent weeks in Kashmir.
Last month, Pakistani flags were displayed at a rally organised to mark Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Geelani’s return from New Delhi.
