The police have registered a case against a 35-year-old elected representative of Gangrar Panchayat Samiti for reportedly marrying a six-year-old girl in the Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan.

The complaint was lodged by the district administration when photographs of the wedding were circulated on WhatsApp. The case was registered against Ratan Jat, a ward panch of Gangrar Panchayat in the Chittorgarh district.

Members of Jat and the six-year-old girl's family have also been named in the report.
Jat, the girl and their families are currently missing.

“The matter came to light when photographs of Ratan Jat and the six-year-old girl were circulated on WhatsApp. Local administration swung into action and lodged a police complaint. Investigations are on in full swing,” said a senior district administration official.

A team of senior officials was sent to the Gangrar Panchayat, but the villagers were tight-lipped about the incident.  The district administration has sought a report from the local Patwari about the ward Jat in this regard.
