States, UTs reported 5,21,358 Covid deaths till Apr 4: Govt to Rajya Sabha

The Centre on Tuesday informed Parliament that confirmed death due to oxygen shortage has not been reported by any state or union territory although over 5.21 lakh fatalities due to Covid-19 have been recorded in India.

It told the Rajya Sabha that it had asked states to provide details of people who have died because of shortage of oxygen.

Rename MCD bill as Kejriwal-phobia bill: AAP MP

AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh on Tuesday asked the Centre to rename the bill to reunify the city's three municipal corporations as the "Kejriwal-phobia" bill and alleged that it was brought by the BJP to avoid civic polls.

He also said in the House that to stop Arvind Kejriwal's AAP from coming to power, the Centre wants to take control of the three municipal corporations.

Over Rs 30,160 crore loans have been sanctioned under the Stand-Up India scheme in the past six years, the Finance Ministry said on Tuesday.

Stand up India Scheme was launched on April 5, 2016, to promote SC, ST and women entrepreneurs at the grassroot level focusing on economic empowerment and job creation.

In 2019-20, the Stand Up India scheme was extended till 2025.

"More than Rs 30,160 crore loans sanctioned to over 1,33,995 accounts under Stand-Up India Scheme in 6 years," the ministry said in a statement.

Lok Sabha adjourned till 12 pm as Opposition members gather near the well of the House

Lok Sabha proceedings were on Tuesday adjourned till 12 noon following uproar by opposition parties over price rise and other issues.

As soon as the House met at 11 am, members belonging to the Congress, DMK, Trinamool Congress and Left parties entered the well raising slogans against the Modi government over price rise, especially fuel price.

TRS members also raised slogans in the well, displaying placards demanding paddy procurement from the state by the Centre.

The Shiv Sena and NCP too joined the opposition protest later.

Initially, Speaker Om Birla ignored the protests and continued the proceedings of the House.

However, as the opposition protest continued, the Speaker adjourned the House after about 25 minutes till 12 noon

The Lok Sabha's Committee on Estimates has expressed serious concerns over the shortage of equipment in the National Disaster AResponse Force (NDRF) and asked the government to supply the necessary sanctioned equipment without further delay.

In its 13th report submitted to the Lok Sabha on Monday, the Committee said that when the panel examined the inventory of sanctioned equipment with the actual numbers of the essential response equipment, items like brick hammers, chipping hammer bits pointed, chipping hammer bits flat, multi para-monitor, oxygen concentrators, pulse oximeters and nebulisers were found short in number.

BJP MP Girish Bapat-led Committee, in its observations, found that "about 10 items, which are authorised for NDRF, do not form part of the inventory and there was a shortage of the items authorised to NDRF.
