Oppn raising issue of price rise due to Modi-phobia: BJP in LS

Defending the government over the issue of price rise, the BJP on Tuesday asked the opposition members to get over "Modi-phobia" and appreciate Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his handling of the situation during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic and providing free food to 80 crore people of the country.

Participating in a debate on the issue of price rise, BJP member Nishikant Dubey accused the Congress of increasing the public debt during its regime in the past.

He urged Finance Minister NirmalaSitharamanto bring a white paper on it so that people of the country come to know how “they (Congress governments) borrowed money due to which generations are facing losses”.

“This is not about price rise but a design to help the son rise,” Dubey charged in a veiled attack at the Congress leadership.

He alleged that the opposition members are raising the issue of price rise because they are all suffering from “Modi-phobia”.

With the Opposition targeting the government in the RajyaSabhaover the arrest of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, the ruling BJP said Monday the government does not interfere in the work of enforcement agencies and that law will take its own course.

"We are law-makers, not law-breakers," the Leader of the House in RajyaSabhaPiyush Goyal told reporters amid disruption in the House caused by the Opposition's protests over Raut's arrest and other issues.

Parliamentarians are meant to legislate and the agencies assigned to enforce laws are doing their work, he said.

Taking a swipe at Opposition parties, Goyal said they might have interfered in the functioning of law-enforcement agencies when they were in power. This is not the case with BJP governments either at the Centre or in states, he claimed.

Inflation rate has doubled in 14 months: Manish Tewari

The opposition parties keep targeting the BJP government at the Centre for rising inflation in the country. Since July 18, when the Monsoon session of Parliament opened, the opposition has been incessantly creating a ruckus in both the houses of the Parliament demanding a discussion on the issue of GST on food items and inflation.

Leaving aside the proceedings of July 28 and 29 (when there was an uproar in both houses over the statement of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury), for eight consecutive days, there was a commotion in the Parliament over inflation and GST.

Cong vows to fight for farmers' issues from streets to Parliament

The Congress on Sunday asserted it will fight from the streets to Parliament to ensure the guarantee of minimum support price for farmers and firmly oppose the "anti-people policies" of the government.

The assertion was made by the party after a two-day meeting of the office-bearers of the All India Kisan Congress whose newly-appointed chief Sukhpal Singh Khaira said he will undertake a nationwide tour to know the problems of farmers and labourers, and support them.

Khaira said he will fight the battle of farmers and labourers with promptness from the road to the House.
