Even as police initially decided to arrest a passenger at the Kolkata Airport from a Mumbai bound flight on Monday for allegedly making a social media post from inside the aircraft and threatening to hijack it, police later changed their mind and let him off with a stern warning.

“During interrogation, it was found that the passenger identified as Yogvedant Poddar was just joking with his friends on an instant messaging platform and did not mean any harm. We had let him off with a stern warning,” a senior police official told DH.

He also said that they also considered Poddar’s young age and since it was proved that he was just joking it was decided not to arrest him.
