A consensus has reached with the BJP agreeing to JPC only on the spectrum distribution, excluding the alleged corruption in Commonwealth Games and Adarsh Housing Society.
“There will be a JPC on 2G issue. We will discuss other issues on the floor of the House,” SS Ahluwalia, deputy leader of BJP in the Rajya Sabha. As early as the last week, the BJP had in it’s Kolkata meet insisted on a JPC on all three issues.
The Prime Minister will make a statement in the Parliament on the government’s decision before the question hour on Tuesday as demanded by Gopinath Munde, the deputy leader of the BJP in the Lok Sabha, during the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting on Monday.
The BAC meeting called by Speaker Meira Kumar had members of all political parties who reached an agreement to constitute JPC into 2G.
The committee is likely to have 30 members with a possible breakup of 20 from LS and 10 from the RS. Congress MP from Kerala PC Chacko or V Kishore Chandra Deo from Andhra are possible candidates for heading the panel. According to Ahluwalia, the Lok Sabha would take up a four-hour discussion on the JPC on February 24.
