Ahmedabad: On the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8, a posse of only woman police officers and personnel will be guarding the venue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public event in Navsari in south Gujarat.
Saying that the decision to deploy only women force will be a "milestone step" in policing and law and order, the state government said that women police would be responsible for entire security arrangement right from the airport route to the venue of event.
PM Modi is scheduled to address a gathering of "Lakhpati Didi Sammelan" in Navsari and disburse over Rs 450 crore assistance to 1.5 lakh women from 25,000 self-help groups.
Barely a week after his three-day visit, Modi is arriving again to his home state for two days during which he is scheduled to participate in several developmental works and public events.
Officials said that on Friday, the Prime Minister is scheduled to launch Surat Food Security Saturation Campaign during which he will distribute benefits to about two lakh beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna.
He is also expected to address a public gathering and inaugurate Namo Hospital in Silvassa, a union territory, which is about a three-hour drive from Surat.
Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi said in a statement that on March 8, on the occasion of International Women's Day, the 'Lakhpati Didi' program has been organised in the presence of Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi at Vansi Borsi, Navsari. More than 1.5 lakh women are expected to participate in the event.
"In view of this event, a historic decision has been taken. In this program, only women police officers and personnel will take full responsibility for the security of the Prime Minister. This decision will prove to be a milestone step in the field of policing and law and order not only in Gujarat but also in the entire country," Sanghavi was quoted saying.
A total of 2,420 women police officers and personnel will be deployed for the security purpose. Principal secretary, home department and IPS officer Nipuna Torwane has been given the charge to monitor the security arrangements.
There will be 2,145 women police constables, 187 police sub-inspectors, 61 police inspectors, 19 Deputy Superintendent of Police, 5 Superintendent of Police, one Deputy Inspector General of Police and Additional Director General of Police.
Earlier on March 1, the PM had landed in Gujarat for three days during which he announced 16th Asiatic lions' population estimation at Gir National Park in Junagadh, visited Somnath temple, Reliance Industries Limited and Reliance Foundation's animal rescue centre Vantara in Jamanagar.
