Miffed over an alleged objectionable post on the social media against a religious book, a mob of locals on Saturday attacked a police station in Uttar Pradesh's communally sensitive Azamgarh district.

According to the sources, members of a particular community barged into the Saraimir police station in the district, pelted stones and damaged several vehicles.

They also forced the closure of the markets and business establishments, sources said.

Police had to resort to baton charge to disperse the mob, sources said adding that over a dozen people, including some cops, were injured in the clashes. Around a dozen, trouble mongers were taken into custody.

Police said that the youth, who had allegedly posted an objectionable comment about a religious book has been arrested.
