Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday initiated a probe after a police vehicle was used by BJP to distribute food packets among its supporters at a poll rally in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Images and videos of the rally showed the workers swarming a police vehicle (JK02BA 4558) to receive food packets. The white-colour gypsy was parked at the venue of the rally in Khanabal, which was addressed by the BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav.

“Today, a video surfaced on social media wherein one police vehicle is being seen being utilised for distribution of food items in a political party rally in Anantnag. The vehicle in question was deployed for ferrying escort personnel of a protected person,” said a police spokesman.

He said the vehicle has been withdrawn from said protected person and driver of the vehicle has been attached. “Enquiry into the matter has been ordered under rules,” he said.
