India spent 9.6 annas (1 anna equalled 1/16th of a rupee) per voter for the first general elections in 1951.

Overall, expenditure of elections incurred from 1948 till the completion of the polls in 1952 was around Rs 10.4 crore.

Of this, approximately Rs 5 crore represented the Centre’s share. Expenditure of the erstwhile Mysore state was Rs 24,11,079 and Coorg Rs 47,628.
