By-election to 3 K'taka council seats on Oct 3

The polling for election to the three vacant seats in the Legislative Council of Karnataka will be held on October 3.

The Election Commission on Wednesday announced the schedule of the polls to fill up the three vacancies in the Legislative Council of Karnataka. The seats fell vacant on May 16 when G Parameshwara -- now Deputy Chief Minister of the State -- of the Congress as well as K S Eshwarappa and V Somanna of the Bharatiya Janata Party resigned after getting elected to the Legislative Assembly.

The EC announced that the notification for the by-election to fill the three seats of the Legislative Council of Karnataka would be issued on Friday. The candidates would be able to file nominations till September 22 and withdraw by September 26. The nominations would be scrutinised on September 24, stated the poll-panel.

The polling would take place from 9 am to 4 pm on October 3. The counting of votes would begin at 5 pm on the same day, the EC announced.

The EC also announced the schedule of the by-election to fill up the vacancy created in the Legislative Council of Maharashtra due to death of a member Pandurang Pundlik Fundkar on May 31. The polling for the by-election in Maharashtra too will take place on October 3, said the commission.
