During the Question Hour when Mukherjee was responding to a question on price rise, Karat intervened by asking why sugar prices were soaring.

“I am not going to accept this. This is indiscipline. It is not permitted here,” a visibly angry Mukherjee shot back at Karat.

As she objected to his remarks, Mukherjee said: “Please do not show your temper here, show it somewhere else.”

When some other Left members stood up in protest, the finance minister took his seat saying that he would not reply.

But after some time Mukherjee again stood up to speak and assured the members that if there was any shortage of sugar, raw sugar would be imported.

He also said that the public distribution system was being strengthened to offer foodgrains at subsidised rates to poor people.
