Ahmedabad: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will skip the AICC Session here on Wednesday, as she is out of the country to attend to a relative who is in need of medical help.
She was also not present at the meeting of the Extended Congress Working Committee which discussed three resolutions, including two for the AICC Session.
When asked about her absence, Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal told reporters that she had sought leave from party president Mallikarjun Kharge from attending the last leg of Parliament's Budget Session and AICC Session.
"She had already requested leave for the AICC Session as well as Parliament’s Budget Session. She had some pre-engagements abroad. The party has granted leave," he said.
Priyanka's absence from Lok Sabha during the discussion and voting of the contentious Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 had triggered a controversy, as Muslim organisations in Kerala from where she was elected as an MP, questioned her action. Congress ally Muslim League also had expressed concerns over Priyanka's absence.
