Hundreds of teaching and non-teaching staff of private educational institutions that recently got the grant-in-aid status, can now heave a sigh of relief. The State Cabinet decided on Thursday to give them one-time exemption under the reservation rules while according the status.
The government had decided in 2009 to extend the status to about 1,500 private educational institutions (including primary, high schools and PU colleges) that were established between 1887 and 1995. However, it could not approve the postings of teaching and non-teaching staff in these institutions as the schools did not conform to the stipulated reservation rules. The Cabinet had set up a sub-committee therefore to study the issue and make appropriate recommendations.
“The sub-committee recommended that a one-time exemption can be accorded and the existing staff can be absorbed. The Cabinet has accepted this recommendation,” Education Minister Acharya told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
When these institutions were established, they were told that they would perpetually remain as non-grant-in-aid institutions, Acharya said.
Hence, neither had the institutions followed the reservation rules while recruiting the staff nor had the government bothered to ensure it, Acharya said.
