Allegedly upset over being ragged by her seniors, a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharma) student of a private college here, jumped from the third floor of her college building and is critical. Nineteen-year-old Sumbul Ishaque, a first year student, sustained serious injuries on her head, face and legs.

Sumbul reached her college as usual in the morning on Tuesday. While her classmates went to their respective classes, Sumbul, instead, went to the third floor and suddenly jumped from there, according to eye witnesses.

The registrar of the college was on the ground floor when Sumbul jumped. She was rushed to  hospital by the college administration and her family was informed. While the college administration denied ragging, Sumbul’s father alleged that she had been ragged by her seniors and was also harassed by one of her teachers. Her peers alleged that the girl was depressed by her “weak” English.

One of her peers, who travelled with Sumbul in the college bus on Tuesday, said that she was “very upset” and had “tears in her eyes” though she did not reveal anything.
Sumbul's father Abu Ishaque said that his daughter was not one to commit suicide.
