Amidst the rendition of vaishnav jana toh tene kahiye, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday visited Bapu Kuti, the hut in which Mahatama Gandhi stayed in Sevagram in Wardha district for a decade.
Besides, he also washed his plate after having a working lunch in the Sevagram Ashram.
Gandhi, who was accompanied by his mother Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, visited Adi Kuti, where Gandhi stayed initially, he then visited where Kasturba Gandhi stayed, and finally Bapu Kuti.
He also saw the office of the Mahatma, who after the Dandi march, made Wardha his home and led the independence movement from this central Indian village.
"Gandhiji is not an immobile statue, he is a living set of ideas and values flowing through India. Truth and non-violence, which he lived for and was killed for, are the foundation(s) of our country. True patriots must protect them," Gandhi tweeted.
From the Sevagram Ashram, Gandhi planned and launched the 1942 Quit India movement.
Rahul Gandhi, for whom this was the second visit to Wardha, also planted a sapling near a place where his father, late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi had planted one in 1986.
Gandhi along with the Congress top brass also attended a prayer meeting under the dense tree-cover of Sevagram complex.
Among those present, include Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.
