Several towns and cities in Odisha, including capital Bhubaneswar, were paralysed by incessant rainfall for the second consecutive day on Saturday.

The rain, triggered by the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal that lay centred in the state’s coastline between Puri and Balasore, is expected to continue for two more days.

“Rainfall and thundershower would occur at many places over Odisha during the next 48 hours,” the local Met office said.

“However, in some areas, particularly in the southern and northern regions of the state, the rainfall will be heavy to very heavy. There will be a decrease in rainfall subsequently,” it added.

Jaypore town in south Odisha recorded a maximum of 145 mm rains in the last 24 hours, while another southern town, Nowrangpur, received 87 mm. Capital Bhubaneswar received 62.1 mm rains.

The Met department has advised fishermen in the state not to venture out to the sea at least for the next 24 hours, as the water would remain windy and choppy.  Odisha is among a few states in the country that has recorded a more than normal rainfall this monsoon.
