Rajasthan police have arrested a woman infamous as the "looting bride" or "looteri Dulhan," more than a decade after marrying multiple men and collecting Rs 1.25 crore from them under the pretense of settlement.
According to a report by NDTV, the accused woman has been identified as Seema aka Nikki, a resident of Uttarakhand. Seema married three men since 2013, ultimately ending the marriages and getting lakhs in the name of maintenance.
As per the report, Seema's first husband was a businessman from Agra. After marrying him in 2013, she filed a case against the man's family sometime later. Seema received a sum of Rs 75 lakh as part of a compromise.
The second marriage took place in 2017. This time the accused married a software engineer from Gurugram. Repeating the pattern, Seema parted ways with him after sometime and took Rs 10 lakh as settlement.
Years later, in 2023, Seema went on to marry a jeweller from Jaipur. Sometime after the marriage, the woman fled her husband's house with jewellery and cash worth Rs 36 lakh. However, this ended up being the last one in the series of marriages as the man's family filed a case against Seema leading to her arrest by Jaipur police.
Through the three marriages over a period of ten years, Seema collected a total of ₹ 1.25 crore as settlement.
Police investigation into the matter has revealed that Seema used to pick her victims from matrimonial sites. Her victims were usually wealthy men who were either divorced or had lost their wives.
As per a India Today report, Jaipur police managed to arrest her after months of investigation.
“Investigations revealed a well-planned modus operandi. The woman specifically targeted divorced or wealthy businessmen and professionals. After establishing contact, she would gather information about her victims’ financial assets and businesses,” an officer told the publication.
