Rape victim to nail accused through video conference

A special court conducting trial in the Swiss woman gangrape case has directed the authorities concerned to facilitate identification of the accused through video conference, as the victim was unable to attend the court proceedings in Datia.

The victim who had already left the country after the incident, is likely to visit India soon.

Special judge Jitendra Sharma yesterday directed the prosecution to make necessary arrangements so that the victim identifies the accused through video conference from Swiss Embassy in New Delhi, police said.

The Swiss couple was on a cycling trip to India (Orchha to Agra) when they were waylaid and the woman was raped near Datia town on March 15. They were camping at a secluded place by erecting a tent in the outskirts of the city.

Soon after the incident, police had arrested six accused in the case and filed a charge sheet in the court for trial.

The court has fixed May 13 as the next date of hearing in the case.
