New Delhi: The 'at Home' event at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Republic Day this year will have a South India flavour as the Southern states cultural diversity will be showcased on January 26 as well as "Vividhta Ka Amrit Mahotsav" scheduled in March.
With President Droupadi Murmu keen on showcasing the cultural diversity of the country, this year, five south Indian states' cultural heritage will feature in these two major events in the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
At Home, which is hosted by the President every January 26 evening, the guests will be welcomed by a couple each from five southern states –Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala- wearing traditional costumes and in their respective states' mother tongues.
There will be a brief performance of dance forms from these states and display of their textiles to guests. Dignitaries will be served a variety of South Indian dishes at the high tea.
The Rashtrapathi Bhavan pathways, mainly Amrit Udyan, where guests will walk to enter the programme venue, will be decorated with the colourful rangolis enlivening the festive mood. Already over 20 artists from each state were invited to draw attractive rangolis.
Besides, this year's edition of "Vividhta Ka Amrit Mahotsav" scheduled from March 6 to 9, will showcase the rich cultural heritage and unique traditions of South India.
The second edition of "Vividhta Ka Amrit Mahotsav," which will be held as part of Amrit Udyan, gardens of Rashtrapati Bhavan, will feature an array of cultural showcases including performances crafts and culinary exhibition that represent each states unique heritage, art installation, classical and folk music, dance performance and food stalls of South Indian states and Union Territories.
Additionally, these events will host workshops and live demonstrations of handicrafts and hand looms, said an official involving the event.
