New Delhi: The BJP questioned the Congress’ stance on EVMs on Wednesday and stated that the party hasn't questioned EVMs' 'mechanism' in those states where the grand old party managed to emerge victorious .
BJP spokesperson Sambhit Patra said that the Congress is frustrated with the Maharashtra results and is thus pointing fingers at the working of the EVMs.
“Yesterday, on the occasion of Constitution Day, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said we need to remove EVMs and bring back ballot papers.
"The fact is that the public has sidelined the Congress in almost every state. In Maharashtra, it has been completely wiped out. On other hand, the Mahayuti has won a huge victory in Maharashtra,” Patra said.
Patra questioned Kharge’s charge that the EVM is wasting the votes of minorities.
“It is surprising that a senior leader like Mallikarjun Kharge ji has said that the votes of SC, ST, OBC and poor people are getting wasted due to EVM. Does Mallikarjun Kharge ji and the people of the Congress party think that the SC-ST-OBC community is so illiterate that they do not know how to vote in EVM? This type of thinking is an insult to Congress,” Patra said.
“The problem is not in the machine (EVM). The problem is with the (Congress) leadership. The EVM is fine, Rahul is faulty. Replace Rahul, not EVM,” Patra said.
Patra also coined a new acronym for EVM. “E stands for Energy, V for Vikas, and M for Mehnat,” he said.
