The situation in Jaipur and its suburban areas eased on Sunday night, as rains that pounded the city for nearly seven days finally ceased.
The Army continued to conduct rescue and relief operations in several suburban neighbourhoods, especially in Kotkhawda, as roads and houses are marooned in many areas due to heavy rainfall during the course of the last two days.
Schools and educational institutions in and around Jaipur will also open from Tuesday. The district collector had declared holiday for educational institutions until Monday due to the rains.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall continued in several parts of the state. Chittorgarh recorded a maximum of 41mm rainfall, followed by Dabok (11.4-mm). Ajmer, Kota and Jodhpur also received moderate rains.
Meteorological department officials said Jaipur will have a sunny day on Tuesday as the effect of the low pressure belt over Rajasthan faded.
However, light and moderate rains will continue over several places in eastern Rajasthan and Jaipur division.
Heavy rains caused around 88 small and medium-sized dams in the state to overflow, prompting district administrations to take extra precautions. In Kota district, the heavy rains caused a breach in Abhayapura dam, which flooded nearby villages.
The district administration has sounded an alert to people in 20 villages in the dam’s vicinity, asking them to leave their homes immediately. Teams of rapid response force have also been deployed.
