Robber on parole loots jeweller, held

A 36-year-old robber on parole was arrested for allegedly looting valuables worth Rs 3.75 lakh from a city-based jeweller near Vajreshwari town, police said today.

The accused Bipanchandara Bisth was lodged at a local jail for his alleged involvement in similar cases and recently came out on parole, said SP (rural) Anil Kumbhare.

Narrating the incident, the SP said Bisht waylaid the victim Paresh Kshirsagar who owns a shop in Vajreshwari while on his way home on Monday evening and snatched away the bag containing the jewellery at gunpoint.

Bisht was joined by three accomplices who came by a car and held up the victim before fleeing, he said.

As Bisht fled to Akloli byepass, the car-borne robbers towards Shirsad phata.

"Within minutes of the incident, police rushed to the spot and launched a combing operation with the help of villagers and finally caught Bisht and recovered the loot from him. We found a revolver and four live cartridges on his person", Kumbhare said, adding the three other accused are still untraceable.

Bisht has been booked under various sections of IPC and the Arms Act 1959, he added.
