In a no-holds-barred attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday called him a coward, known for turning his back when challenged by a political rival.
In a rousing speech at the national convention of the AICC Minority Department, Rahul also targeted the RSS and declared that the Congress governments in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh would root out Sangh sympathisers in the bureaucracy in the three states.
“Take it from me, be it the RSS or Narendra Modi or Savarkar, all these are cowards. When we stand up to them together, these people will turn their backs,” Rahul said amid a roar of applause from the gathering.
“Aap sher ke bacche ho (you are lion's cubs), when 'sher ke bacche' confront cowards, the cowards run away. We are not going to move back an inch, we will stand up to them,” the Congress president said.
Rahul claimed that during Doklam crisis, when the troops of India and China were engaged in a face-off on the western border of Bhutan, Modi “flew to Beijing” to hold talks with Chinese leadership “without any agenda” and “folded hands” in front of them.
“Chinese government realised Mr 56 inch is not even 4 inches. This is Modi’s character, he bowed down to China in Doklam issue,” the Congress president said.
Rahul said five years back Modi enjoyed a good reputation, but today people see him as a 'chor' (thief). “His reputation is over,” he said.
