Barge was attacked by the accused after he tried to seek information regarding a housing project in the town, Phaltan city police said. The incident took place around 11 pm in the city.
The police have identified five accused — Nilesh Khanvilkar, Firoz Attar, Yogesh Shinde, Sandeep Desphande and P Bendre. All the accused are from Shukravar Peth of Phaltan. While Barge lives in nearby Budhwar Peth of the city.
