A forerunner in the development of number of critical missile technologies that were denied under the Missile Technology Control Regime, Saraswat was one of the key members of APJ Abdul Kalam’s team that made Indian missiles.

In his DRDO career spanning over four decades Saraswat spearheaded development of strategic and tactical missile systems including the ‘Agni’ series of strategic missiles covering a range up to 3,000 km besides the tactical Prithvi and its naval version Dhanush.

As the chief controller in charge of missile and strategic systems, he is closely associated with the ambitious 5000 km range version of Agni, which DRDO plans to launch towards the end of 2009.

Saraswat is also a playing a key role in realising the futuristic “hyper-plane”.
Last year’s successful testing of ‘Dhanush’ missile on board a moving ship with high terminal accuracy brought a new dimension in the national defence capability.

As program director (Air Defence) Saraswat is building up a defence system to neutralise oncoming missiles at low and mid-level altitudes. Saraswat started his DRDO career at the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad.
