"No, we are not going to do so. We have got a feed back that retired judges are not interested in heading the committees. If you want a retired judge as the chairman, you have to first get the consent of the judge," a bench headed by Chief Justice S H Kapadia said.

The bench said it can only ask a judge to head the committee if he agrees. The bench made the remarks after advocate Kamini Jaiswal, appearing for anti-GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) Group, said there was no consensus on the issue of appointing the Chairman of the expert committee and a retired judge could be appointed.

The issue of GM crops has been in the apex court since 2004 and it has passed orders time and again.
