The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition seeking removal of former Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court Justice Bhaskar Rao from the post of Lokayukta.

A bench of Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justice Amitava Roy said it was not necessary for the court to interfere into the matter as “the issue has been debated upon in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.”

The court was hearing the special leave petition of Anti Corruption Council of India against the judgment of the high court.

The Karnataka High Court  had in October dismissed the PIL seeking Rao’s removal from the post on various grounds, including that he allegedly continued to hold the designation of senior advocate despite assuming the office of Lokayukta.
