The Central Board of Secondary Education has asked its schools introduce Financial Market Management (FMM) as a vocational course for students of class IX and Class X from the current academic session.

The course was so far available to senior secondary students. The board recently decided to introduce the vocational course for students of class IX and X, as well. However, the course can only be introduced by schools which have successfully offered the FMM course at class XI and Class XII.

The FMM course, in collaboration with the National Stock Exchange ( NSE), will be introduced in schools from Class IX onwards “This will be a skill based competency course in the FMM at level 1 of the National Skill Qualification Frame Framework level,” a CBSE official said.“The primary objective of the course is to develop practical employability skills in BFSI. Financial skills, particularly in the 21st century, are as important as computer skills. It empowers a person to take informed judgments and decisions regarding the use and management of money. Students will certainly be benefited by the FMM course,” the official further added.

The curriculum of the FMM course has been designed by eminent experts from the financial markets and vetted by the NSE. On completion of the course, a student will get a joint certificate from the CBSE and the NSE. The CBSE will make arrangements to provide training to existing teachers with Economics, Commerce, and Business Studies qualification. The NSE will conduct online examination for FMM papers.
