In the backdrop of rising attacks on security forces’ convoys on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, security agencies have set-up joint competent authority (JCA) to remain in touch with road opening parties.
There have been several deadly fidayeen attacks on security forces’ convoys on the 35-km stretch between Bijbehera town to Pampore in South Kashmir in the recent years in which dozens of troopers have been killed.
Sources told DH that the decision to set-up the JCA was taken on the directions of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who recently visited Kashmir, to ensure fool-proof security cover to convoys. “All the convoys will now remain in touch with the road opening parties all along their travel destinations,” they said and added the JCA comprising officials of all security agencies will first get the feedback from the ROPs and then allow the convoy movement on the highway.
