Sounds of cracker bursts reverberated across the ten districts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, as people from all walks of life joined jubilant TRS cadres to celebrate the passing of the statehood bill in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
TRS cadres, who were glued to television at their party headquarters Telangana Bhavan, walked out shouting “long live KCR” and “jai Telangana” as news of the passing of the AP reorganisation bill flashed on the television screens.
Party leader K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), who had been modest about his reactions throughout the process of statehood creation, asked cadres to go ahead with their celebrations once Lok Sabha cleared the Bill.
People gathered at Gun Park opposite the state Assembly to pay tributes to martyrs for the cause. “The victory belongs to KCR, who single handedly achieved statehood, our 60 years of struggle has been vindicated,” jubilant TRS floor leader Etela Rajender said. Telangana TDP leader Motkupalli Narsimhulu, one of the first TTDP leaders to arrive at the party headquarters, claimed that the statehood is achieved as a result of the students that have committed suicide for Telangana. “In fact we thank our leader Nara Chandrababu Naidu, whose letter favouring T, paved way for Telangana,” he said.
A TRS spokesperson said that the celebrations will continue until KCR arrives from Delhi. The party is planning a grand welcome for the 60-year-old leader, followed by a huge public rally.
TRS, Congress and CPI cadres celebrated the news by firing crackers in Medak, Warangal, Karimnagar and Nalgonda districts of Telangana. Meanwhile, YSRCongress party has called for bandh in Seemandhra on Wednesday in the 13 districts of the residuary Andhra Pradesh.
